Dillon Danis has responded to Eddie Hall calling him out for an MMA fight, despite their significant weight difference.
The controversial former Bellator fighter Danis has faced a challenging year. He missed planned fights against KSI and Tony Ferguson due to event cancellations (Misfits Boxing and GFL).
Now, it seems he has a potential new opponent in Eddie Hall, the 2017 World`s Strongest Man winner, who recently defeated Mariusz Pudzianowski decisively. The two have had disagreements previously, and a fight could now be possible as their schedules are clear.
Dillon Danis`s Strong Reaction to Eddie Hall`s Challenge
After his quick 30-second knockout victory over Mariusz Pudzianowski last weekend, Eddie Hall named Dillon Danis as his preferred next opponent. The large difference in their last recorded weights is notable: Hall at 334lb and Danis at 195lb (Danis was even set for lower weights, 165lb and 185lb, in his cancelled bouts).
Hall announced on Instagram: “Dillon Danis Next. Sort it out Misfits. Big Love, The Beast.” Danis saw this post and chose to reply from his less-followed private Instagram account, TheMadSamurai, which has 134,000 followers compared to his main accounts with millions.
His simple response was: “Why is this fatty calling me out?” This question contrasts with his own statement in a February interview with Ariel Helwani, where he said: “It was 100 per cent legit, it was my idea. He’s big and they couldn’t get anybody to sanction it in MMA.
“One of my favorite fights is Nogueira and Bob Sapp or Mark Kerr fighting those guys. I always wanted to know what it would be like fighting someone that big and see if my jiu-jitsu would work – I’m not scared of losing, if you can beat me then beat me.”
Past Interactions and Fight Offers Between Hall and Danis
The truthfulness of Misfits Boxing`s and Danis`s account of a serious attempt to make this unusual fight happen is questionable. Hall told Helwani weeks later that Misfits announced the fight was unsanctionable before they had even discussed it with him or made any offer.
Hall explained: “Misfits put that out on Instagram and there were no talks if I’m brutally honest,” adding, “There were no talks whatsoever, or I didn’t know of any talks – there might have been something behind my back.”
Hall continued: “But I saw that on Misfits and immediately messaged my contact through there and said ‘you’ve got to make this fight happen now’. I’d love to fight Dillon Danis so that may well happen one day, I probably would have fought him if they’d have given me two weeks’ notice.”
