MMA icon Demetrious Johnson shared a heartfelt moment with popular street fighter `Death Sentence` (Maraji Johnson) after successfully coaching him to his long-awaited first victory.
Known widely as one of the greatest mixed martial artists ever, the former UFC and ONE FC champion “Mighty Mouse” has found new fame covering viral fights on YouTube. For his new series, he invited `Death Sentence`, an internet personality known for his often comical lack of skill in the ring despite his confident claims, to train for his upcoming Streetbeefs bout.
After training under Johnson, `Death Sentence` finally secured his debut win last weekend. Demetrious couldn`t attend the fight live at the Streetbeefs Scrapyard in Virginia, as he was in the UK filming. Instead, he watched the action via video call.
Johnson was thrilled to see `Death Sentence` not only win but also effectively utilize the grappling techniques they had focused on. The opponent ultimately quit, protesting a strike to the back of the head but refusing to re-engage after the referee`s warning. Watching from his phone, Johnson got on a Facetime call with his fighter afterward, who excitedly declared his triumph. Johnson praised him as a “warrior” (with a hint of amusement) as `Death Sentence` spoke of future plans, including reaching the UFC and challenging opponents like `Lights Out`.
Johnson offered encouraging words, advising `Death Sentence` to “take baby steps,” stay focused, and continue training for his next fight scheduled for July. He emphasized that the win was a result of their work on proper training methods.
`Death Sentence` is a well-known figure on the massively popular Streetbeefs YouTube channel, which boasts over 4 million subscribers. Despite his popularity, he hadn`t secured a win until receiving guidance from one of MMA`s all-time greats. The training collaboration came about after an episode of Johnson`s `Mightycast` featuring `Death Sentence` surpassed its target of 250,000 views significantly, prompting Johnson to follow through on a promise to train him. The pair even engaged in a memorable, humorous sparring session.
