Darren Till Discusses Potential MMA Return, Including Surprising PFL Interest Ahead of Boxing Match

Sports news » Darren Till Discusses Potential MMA Return, Including Surprising PFL Interest Ahead of Boxing Match

Darren Till, the prominent British fighter who transitioned from the UFC to boxing in 2023, is now openly considering a return to mixed martial arts. This potential comeback could see him exploring options beyond his previously stated plan of only rejoining the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

Since leaving the UFC, Till`s boxing venture has had a limited start with only two fights. His next scheduled bout is a main event slot at Misfits Boxing 21 on Friday, May 16, where he is set to face fellow UFC veteran Darren Stewart. This fight represents a rescheduled contest following Till`s recent victory over Anthony Taylor.

Till had consistently maintained that if he were to return to the MMA cage, it would be exclusively under the UFC banner, the promotion where he built his reputation. However, he recently indicated in an interview that he is now contemplating opportunities in other leagues for his return.

Darren Till Considers PFL Move for MMA Comeback

Following his departure from the UFC after a loss to Dricus Du Plessis at UFC 282, Darren Till has publicly stated his relationship with the promotion remains strong. Despite this, and having previously declined offers for other MMA fights to focus on boxing, he is now open to potentially joining the PFL, a significant competitor to the UFC.

Till discussed his perspective on a comeback, noting he doesn`t feel old for the sport and believes his body, despite past issues with his knees, is still fresh. He also expressed confidence in his mental state, stating he doesn`t believe he shows early signs of CTE.

Regarding the PFL, Till commented on his interest, saying he speaks with them quite a bit. He stated, “I might go back… Depending on things I might try my hand at the PFL, have a little go.” He added that he likes the way the PFL is organized and “would actually love a bash at it.” Till also considered the implications for his relationship with the UFC, acknowledging, “It just depends then if the UFC would have me back after that, I don’t know.” He concluded by stating his belief that he still has “a few years left in me” to compete.

Darren Till Faces Darren Stewart in Boxing Match

Before any potential move back to MMA, Darren Till`s immediate focus is his upcoming boxing match against Darren Stewart. Both fighters are veterans who competed in the UFC, though Till achieved a more prominent career within the organization.

The rescheduled fight between the two British athletes is set to headline the Vaillant Live event in Derby. Till spoke about his opponent, acknowledging that Stewart “did well in the UFC” and was “always tough and was quite game,” but noted they were on different paths during their time there. Now, he remarked, “we’re both having a go at the boxing and we’re going to have a tear up in Derby… It was always going to be the main event.”
