The Dallas Stars are making the long-term contract extension of their star forward, Jason Robertson, a top priority this summer. General Manager Jim Nill has confirmed the team’s strong commitment to retaining Robertson, who has one year remaining on his Restricted Free Agent (RFA) status before he could become an Unrestricted Free Agent (UFA).
Nill revealed that initial discussions with Robertson’s representatives commenced last summer but were deliberately tabled. The decision was made to allow Robertson to concentrate fully on the past season and the playoffs. The organization unequivocally views Robertson as an indispensable asset, recognizing him as one of the league’s leading scorers currently in the prime of his career.
“He’s a big part of our team,” Nill stated, underscoring Robertson’s significance. “He’s really in the prime of his career. So a priority for us is to get him signed this summer and move on.” The overarching goal is to secure Robertson’s future with the Stars for the next decade, envisioning him as a pivotal player in bringing a Stanley Cup to Dallas.
Despite previous speculation regarding his contract status or potential trade scenarios, the lines of communication between the team and Robertson’s camp have consistently remained open. Jim Nill has firmly expressed his determination to keep Jason Robertson as a foundational piece of the Dallas Stars franchise.
