`The Sandman` is trying a new approach to finally earn another shot at the UFC championship.
Cory Sandhagen has been a prominent bantamweight in the UFC since his debut in 2018, consistently ranking among the top fighters in the 135-pound division.
A defeat to Umar Nurmagomedov last August hindered Sandhagen`s progress towards a title opportunity. However, he aims to rebound on May 3rd when he faces former flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo.
The announcement of the next title fight in their division sparked controversy among fans. Many questioned why Sean O`Malley, who hasn`t fought since losing his title at UFC 306, was granted a rematch against Merab Dvalishvili.
Currently ranked #4, the 32-year-old Sandhagen is proactively seeking ways to enhance his public image and strengthen his case for a title contention.

Cory Sandhagen Gets Fashion Advice from His `Brand Manager` in New Skit
Sean O`Malley`s rematch for the title, despite the circumstances of his previous fight, is not entirely unexpected given his star power within the UFC.
While Cory Sandhagen is respected as a top contender, he is not known for creating excessive hype or self-promotion to get ahead in the division.
`The Sandman` typically prefers to let his performances in the Octagon speak for themselves. However, this approach may be evolving.
Leading up to his main event fight against Deiveson Figueiredo in Iowa, Sandhagen has been sharing his preparation through his “Stupid Fight Vlogs” series on YouTube.
In his latest vlog, Sandhagen jokingly introduces a new member to his team – a `brand manager` tasked with elevating his public profile beyond his fighting skills.
In a humorous skit, Sandhagen follows the advice of his newly hired `brand manager`.
“I took your advice about moving away from being awkward and weird, so I reduced my Instagram posting as you suggested. But honestly, it feels inauthentic,” Sandhagen quips in the skit.
“I don’t really get the whole ‘brand’ thing, but I`m trusting you. Just tell me what to do to get title fights – that’s all I care about.”
Trusting his brand manager, Sandhagen then appears on screen with a dramatically new style, featuring low-slung trousers, a white vest, chains, and sunglasses.
“Dude, I’m not sure about this look. I feel ridiculous. Is this really the direction we’re going? I feel like Sean O’Malley in middle school.” he jokes.
Comedy Skits Might Actually Help Cory Sandhagen
While Cory Sandhagen`s hiring of a brand manager is clearly a self-deprecating joke, these kinds of videos allow fans to see more of his personality and humor.
His fighting ability at 135 pounds is undeniable, but for various reasons, a UFC title shot has remained elusive. Such opportunities are rare.
With Merab Dvalishvili potentially facing Sean O’Malley next, and Petr Yan also in contention, Sandhagen might face a waiting period even if he defeats Deiveson Figueiredo on May 3rd.
One advantage for Sandhagen is that he is one of the few top contenders Dvalishvili has not yet fought. This could position him as a fresh and appealing matchup if Dvalishvili retains the title.
Ultimately, increasing his fanbase and engaging people with his career narrative can only benefit his pursuit of a title shot.
