Former Star Chris Pronger Explores NHL Front-Office Opportunities
During an appearance on Sirius XM NHL Network Radio’s Morning Skate, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman provided insights into Chris Pronger’s potential interest in open general manager positions within the National Hockey League. The discussion arose amidst speculation surrounding various team leadership roles, including the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Co-host Gord Stellick noted Pronger’s previously expressed “never say never” attitude towards management roles, suggesting that the former defenseman would be open to the right kind of situation. This indicated a clear willingness from Pronger to consider a return to the NHL in a front-office capacity.
Friedman confirmed that Pronger had engaged in an “informal introduction” or “get together” with the Nashville Predators regarding their vacant general manager position. While not a formal interview, these discussions were part of Nashville’s candidate search. However, Friedman clarified that Pronger is not believed to be among the finalists for the Predators’ role.
Regarding the Toronto Maple Leafs, Friedman highlighted Keith Pelley, the CEO of the Maple Leafs Sports & Entertainment. Pelley is known for his openness to taking meetings and listening to individuals, regardless of their background. Given this, Friedman surmised that Pronger is indeed interested in a management position and believes it wouldn’t be surprising if Pelley chose to meet with him to explore his suitability for a role within the Maple Leafs organization or elsewhere in the league.
