At least eight individuals sustained minor injuries when a vehicle collided with a crowd gathered outside Barcelona`s match against Espanyol on Thursday. Local authorities have officially classified the event as an accident.

The incident unfolded during the opening minutes of the game at RCDE Stadium in Barcelona. A car drove into the area where supporters were congregated, striking several people. Inside the stadium, some fans became aware of the situation and attempted to signal the referee to pause the game, with some specifically calling out to Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia to get his attention. Reports indicate a few spectators even climbed over advertising boards to reach the pitch and alert Garcia, successfully causing a temporary halt to the match. These individuals were later escorted out of the stadium by security personnel, as per ESPN reporting.

Initial reports confirm that all injuries reported were not severe. Salvador Ilia, the president of the government of Catalonia, stated that the incident was not a deliberate attack.

Law enforcement officials released a statement assuring the public that there was no threat to anyone inside RCDE Stadium. A similar announcement was also made over the stadium`s public address system.

Barcelona ultimately continued with the game and secured a 2-0 victory, with Lamine Yamal scoring the winning goal. This result was significant as it mathematically confirmed Barcelona as the champions of La Liga.
