Relive the key moments from the thrilling final round of the 2025 U.S. Open held at Oakmont Country Club.
J.J. Spaun achieved an unlikely victory at the rain-affected U.S. Open Championship on Sunday, securing the first major title of his career.
Despite a challenging start in the final round where he bogeyed five of his first six holes, Spaun (-1) showed remarkable resilience. He rebounded strongly over the remainder of the round, carding three birdies and only one more bogey. At 34 years old, he becomes the fifth-oldest player in history to win a major after never previously achieving a top-20 finish in a major championship.
After Robert MacIntyre finished as the clubhouse leader at 1 over, resulting in a four-way tie at the top of the leaderboard, Spaun responded decisively. He birdied the 17th hole to take a solo lead. He then cemented his victory with a final birdie on the 18th. This triumph makes him only the fifth player in the last century to win the U.S. Open without ever having made the cut in a previous U.S. Open appearance.
The winning moment was particularly spectacular: a 64-foot, 5-inch birdie putt on the 72nd hole. This remarkable stroke was the longest putt successfully made by any player from over 60 feet throughout the entire tournament week.
