Yakhyaev initiated the fight with an aggressive approach, which almost led to trouble when Ribeiro connected with a clean right hand. Undeterred, Yakhyaev absorbed another strike while driving for a takedown, successfully bringing Ribeiro to the canvas.
Ribeiro attempted to counter with a kimura from the bottom, but Yakhyaev swiftly transitioned, taking his opponent’s back and locking in a rear-naked choke. Ribeiro was forced to tap out in the opening round.
