Former MLS player Aaron Boupendza has tragically passed away at the young age of 28 after an incident in China. He reportedly fell from the 11th floor of a building. The Gabon national team officially announced Boupendza`s death on Wednesday.
At the time of his untimely death, Boupendza was playing for Zheijang FC in the Chinese Super League. In a heartfelt Instagram post commemorating Boupendza, his club, Zhejiang FC, stated that he died at his residence. Currently, authorities are conducting an investigation into the incident, and the club has pledged its full cooperation.
Boupendza previously played for FC Cincinnati in MLS for parts of two seasons. During the 2023 season, he played in 10 games and scored an impressive six goals. In the following season, he added two more goals in 14 appearances. His contract with FC Cincinnati was terminated in August 2024.
FC Cincinnati released a public statement on social media expressing their condolences regarding Boupendza`s passing.
In their statement, FC Cincinnati wrote, “We are deeply saddened to learn of the tragic death of former FC Cincinnati forward Aaron Boupendza earlier today at his home in China. Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with his family, friends, and loved ones. He was a cherished member of the FC Cincinnati family, and we extend our condolences to everyone who knew him.”
Beyond his club career, Boupendza proudly represented his home nation of Gabon in 35 international matches. He scored eight goals for Gabon, including one memorable goal in the 2016 African Nations Championship.
